Project Example
CCLR's Technical Assistance at Work in Brisbane, CA

CCLR was approached by the community of Brisbane to address local concerns regarding the redevelopment of a large parcel of land adjacent to their historic hillside village. The parcel had a long history of industrial use, including old rail maintenance yards and landfills.

CCLR facilitated several community meetings on the topic of redeveloping brownfields. Through visioning exercises and extensive dialogue between city staff, community stakeholders, and development interests, CCLR arranged for a respected local landscape architect to lead a master's level design studio for landscape architecture students at UC Berkeley.

The studio was undertaken as a way to generate thought-provoking concepts for the citizens of Brisbane, who will be responsible for the future of their community's built environment. The landscape studio worked within the framework of the Brisbane Specific Plan's open space zone to provide design concepts for the creation of an enticing, contextually responsive, and sustainably designed place.
