Barry Hersh

Barry F. Hersh is a Clinical Associate Professor at the New York University, School of Professional Studies, Schack Institute of Real Estate, Chair of the Masters in Real Estate Development Program and Vice-Chair of the NYU SPS Faculty Council. He teaches courses in Sustainable Real Estate Development, Land Use and Environmental Regulation, and the Development Capstone.

Mr. Hersh has conducted international studies on “Brownfields on Three Continents” published by the American and Asian Real Estate Societies and Brownfield Renewal and presented in Shanghai. His New York City Brownfields study, recognized for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement and was utilized in PlaNYC 2020. In 2016 he was a participant in the WatersEdge symposium held in Auckland, New Zealand. Mr. Hersh has been involved with the New York Brownfield Programs since their inception, including Brownfield Opportunity Area planning efforts; in Jamaica, Eastchester, Newtown Creek and the Staten Island Green Zone. From 2014 – 216 he led graduate student studies of the NY State Brownfields Tax Credit and Brownfield Opportunity Area programs.

Mr. Hersh holds a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from New York University’s Wagner School, and has a Bachelor’s in Urban Studies from CUNY. He is a Certified Environmental Planner and member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. He serves on the board or advisory committees of the NY Urban Land Institute, Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance and the Waterfront Center.
