How can we best reach out to communities new to the world of land revitalization? The Vacant to Vibrant, Land Renewal (V2V) outreach effort, created by the EPA R9 Brownfields Office and the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), meets communities where they are. Edgeless & EVgreen: A Roadmap for Chargefields
2:00pm – 2:15pm | Room 355
Range anxiety, and convenient and affordable access to charging stations are barriers to EV adaptation. Highways and roads await – for clean energy charging stations – or chargefields. Similarly, there are opportunities for brightfields in mine-scarred and underutilized rural lands. These are critical ingredients for clean fuel, and to reducing GHG emissions. Each community

can contribute a piece of the solution to eventually enable worry-free coast-to-coast EV charging. Because energy/utility regulations, policy and incentives vary by state, so do the approaches to planning and implementation. CCLR has a decade-long track record of assisting communities throughout the country with outside-the-box and stretch-the-envelope EPA MARC grant applications, including chargefields. If your community is looking for bright ideas, or leading

the charge, don’t miss this session.

Vacant to Vibrant: Meeting Communities Where They Are and Increasing Access to Land Revitalization
2:00pm – 3:00pm | Room 360 Ambassador Ballroom
The EPA R9 Brownfields Office and The Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR) have seen

many land renewal projects get stuck before they even start. Many communities have limited

staff to address land reuse, face competing priorities, or need additional assistance with brownfields funding. Vacant to Vibrant: Land Renewal (V2V) is a strategic and proactive outreach effort to engage communities that are facing environmental issues and are new to EPA programming. This panel will present the V2V’s approach and results, share the perspective of a community member accessing this assistance for the first time, and inspire you to take on community engagement at any scale. The Vacant to Vibrant approach is broadly transferable and timely, considering funding newly available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Advancing Equity: A Guide to Inform Your Community’s Land Reuse Plan
10:35am – 10:50am | Room 353
Often, equity practices are not baked into the steps of a land reuse project and can be left on

the backburner, perhaps as an afterthought at the end of an application for project funding. In

an effort to bring equity and EJ to the forefront of brownfield revitalization, the Center for

Creative Land Recycling (CCLR) and Groundwork USA have developed Advancing Equity in Land Reuse: A Practical Guide. This resource details the tangible steps practitioners can take to ensure that equity actions inform every step of the land reuse process. The Equity Guide addresses climate resiliency, food and housing security, and neighborhood wellbeing. Join CCLR and GWUSA for a topic talk on the development and uses of the Equity Guide.
