March 26-29, 2024

The 30th annual Alaska Tribal Conference on Environmental Management (ATCEM) is back from March 26-29, 2024 at The Sheraton in Anchorage, AK! ATCEM has been a vital networking space for Tribal environmental professionals from across the state to learn from one another, connect with support organizations and agencies, and discover resources to help assist in efforts to improve local environmental health.

CCLR will be exhibiting and presenting at ATCEM from March 26-29th. Be sure to connect with Claire Weston, Joy Britt, and Lujain Altawarah at their booth and attend their sessions: Charting Success: Navigating Brownfields with Technical Assistance and 20/20 Vision: Set Your Sites on a Vision to Action!

20/20 Vision: Set Your Sites on a Vision to Action | March 26, 4:30 p.m. AKDT

Every brownfield project carries unique challenges that can seem overwhelming. From assessment to cleanup, the process is daunting when there is no clear path to redevelopment. This is where a Vision To Action (V2A) can help. Using proven methods of community planning practice, the V2A process inspires a community to reimagine underutilized and blighted areas by engaging all stakeholders (including municipal or tribal staff, residents, community groups, regulators, local businesses, property owners, and others) to work together in a series of workshops. At these workshops, participants establish goals, visualize development concepts, compare alternatives, choose a path forward, and craft an optimized strategy for achieving their redevelopment outcomes.

In this session, the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR) will walk you through the four-step V2A process that can guide you and your community to a reuse plan that meets your unique needs. Learn the basic goals and scope of an average V2A, understand why it’s an important element in the land reuse process, and know what it means to be ready for a V2A. You’ll also walk away with a clear understanding of how the Center for Creative Land Recycling can help you execute a V2A on a budget and how we provide support at every step of the process.

Attend this session to learn how you can help transform your community with a Vision to Action!

Charting Success: Navigating Brownfields with Technical Assistance | March 27, 9:45 a.m. AKDT

We get it, brownfields redevelopment can be confusing and challenging. But don’t get discouraged! There are resources and a number of technical assistance (TA) providers out there who can help you navigate the land reuse landscape free of charge. In this session you’ll hear from your Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB) team, which includes CCLR, your regional TAB provider, and ANTHC/KSU, your Tribal TAB provider. We’ll discuss the types of technical assistance available, outline the specific services they provide, and share case studies that demonstrate how Alaska communities can leverage TA providers’ experience, networks, and resources to support their revitalization initiatives.

Land reuse is a team sport so don’t leave us on the bench! You’ll walk away from this session with a clear understanding of who to contact, how to contact them, and when it’s appropriate/most advantageous to do so.
